Guillermo is a filmmaker from Puerto Rico. He has an M.F.A. in Cinema-Television Production and a Ph.D. in Comparative Media and Culture from the University of Southern California. While his love for writing has been lifelong, he cultivated his talents at Princeton while workshopping a novel under the mentorship of Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Toni Morrison. His passion for storytelling, specifically exploring the horror genre and representing marginalized voices, compelled him to become a filmmaker. His feature film The Shadows premiered at Los Angeles’s Outfest LGBTQ Film Festival in their Dramatic Competition and was immediately purchased for distribution. It is currently available on Amazon Prime as well as other streaming platforms. He has also edited a multitude of television shows and films including Where the Road Meets the Sun, the documentary Born and Bred as well as produced and edited the indie coming of age feature Sweet Thing, which debuted at the Seattle International Film Festival.
I am a writer, director and producer with twenty years of experience working with AVID media composer as a filmmaker and professional editor. I am also Assistant Professor of Cinema and Television Arts at California State University, Northridge, where I teach media theory and criticism courses on Film Theory, Television Studies, Film & Television History, and Latin American Cinema.
